Caulfield Cup and Melbourne Cup hero Without A Fight is making steady progress in his recovery from a tendon injury. Co-trainer Sam Freedman revealed that the champion stayer, who is currently on a treadmill programme, could be back under saddle as early as this week. “We’re hoping to get him to big races but there’s a lot of water to go under the bridge,” Freedman said.

Freedman enjoyed a night to remember at the Racing Victoria Awards, where he and his father, Anthony, were recognised for their outstanding work with Without A Fight, including winning the Racehorse of the Year Award in Victoria.

Reflecting on the horse’s success, Sam credited his father’s efforts behind the scenes, particularly during a challenging build-up to the Caulfield Cup. Despite a shaky build-up, Without A Fight delivered on the big day.

After a disappointing season last year, the Freedman stable returned with 132 winners, far exceeding the company’s target of 100.
