Weather Alert for Dangerous Heat and Humidity

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – Meteorologist Jake Dunne says the weather concern today is heat, while tonight’s concerns are strong to severe storms. High temperatures near the century mark will feel like 105 degrees when you factor in the humidity. Today is a Storm Team 12 Weather Alert day and strenuous outdoor activities should be avoided in the afternoon and early evening, and if you must go outside, staying hydrated is key.

A weak cold front moving across Kansas tonight will bring an area of showers and storms, primarily across the northern and central parts of the state. While widespread severe weather is not expected, some storms could be powerful and produce large hail, damaging winds, and heavy rain.

Behind the front, Thursday won’t be as warm as today. However, highs in the low to mid 90s will keep us close to normal, and a sprinkling of humidity will make things worse.

Looking ahead… the weather pattern promises to calm down and stay that way for a long period. Expect near normal temperatures both night and day with little to no chance of significant rain.
